The Passageway Around the Keep
The passage way between the keep walls and the piles of boulders is
just wide enough for a fair-size adventuring party to pass through. The
boulders look unsteady and you would hate to have to climb up on them, but
thankfully don't look like there will be an avalanche. To the north, the
path opens up and you can see the main gates of the keep, while to the
south, the passageway continues.
A fearsome blue dragon, Silvanaris, is standing here, ignoring you.

players of arctic have gotten so used to this happening that they think it's okay. it is not okay for immortals to damn/delete players just because they like to pkill.
Trash randomers have been a big problem since last wipe, as everyone knows. So yes, it's proper for the Imm's to get involved if a person, or group, begins to have a negative impact on the majority of the mud. But, only if they are breaking the rules, or the spirit of the rules.
Are they breaking the rules? Only they, and the Imm's could possibly know. But, considering the fact that they have not been deleted yet, I figure they are still on the right side of the line.
example: i start a war because i want to have some fun and test my skills, spells, and gear vs things other than computer generated intelligence. the war results in one side getting mad because they are afraid to lose their stuff, which may lead to people playing less, which would eventually cause damage to the playerbase. it's a lose-lose situation. the new flag/pk system is good in the sense that it does restrict pk to the point that it is seen as the renegade's game - with the npc community frowning on the idea of innocents being murdered. this does encourage better communications between rival clans to arrange battles, but this only goes so far.
for those of us that look at gear as trivial pursuit to gaming happiness, having some alternate form of entertainment with similar rewards to that of high level zoning would be a great addition to the game on the whole. implementing the system, though, is a different story. at the end of the day i still enjoy playing Arctic, i'm appreciative of the efforts the staff puts in to make this game the best mud available.
let me ask you this: how does arena style pk equivocate to WoW? it was never implied that a system like this would be a risk free environment. on contrary there would inherently have to be risk, to gain wondrous booty you'd have to be competing at the highest level.
out with the old way of thinking, in with the new! stop being so 'crazy'!
you could add an arena with people holding titles as champs for each class (I think this has been done before in a more risk-free style), or bonuses for winning etc. of some sort (although this might make pk more like zoning)
Personally i find it more exciting when I need to keep an eye on the who list, be careful about where I afk or even rest and make sure that I'm actually thinking while i mud.
As long as the pking is done, however, with chars with some gear.
Lets say Corey was naked from having died recently, and maybe he was running to a zone when he got hit by our triggers - sucks to be him, and he wasnt doing anything trashy.
Had he been the one to area us first, then sure I'd have a problem. Lets see how it pans out going forward...
I totally agree. I like that this mud has a lot of pk going on, and I don't want that to change. Pk helps keep Arctic's blood flowing, and without it the game would slowly die.
I just don't like the type of pk ben and reed were famous for last wipe. Constantly attacking most anything that moved and almost never having any eq on themselves worth a crap. If I wanted to see 0xp on a rip and get no eq, I would go kill the mice in the nook (at-least they load bladders!).
Oh yes, just to let you know I'm playing again and I've almost been pked by them.
What makes Arctic so interesting that a lot of us have played on and off for well over 10 yrs is precisely because there isn't a security blanket like that.
By being able to be killed and lose all equipment and cash on-hand, there is a much stronger emphasis on clan-dynamics, diplomacy, and strategy. Any neut with good equipment will somehow end up dead from a clan or a pk group. Aristox, former dictator of all that is arctic, was a member of a clan that would kill anyone who had decent eq and couldn't defend it.
Puppy dogs and dandylions aside, that's how it is, and it's a lot like life. That's why a lot of people join clans, protection, collective self-interest, and sometimes, because they actually enjoy PK.
So I'll join the cry, if you don't like PK, go somewhere else, there are a ton of muds or games like WoW that has worthless pk, where the people who are on top are braindead idiots who just spam zones constantly and have no idea about strategy, diplomacy, or pk tactics. But don't take away arctic, probably the only game I have ever found with a model I really enjoy.
Chris
P.S. Arena combat, especially 1v1, is not really PK tactics. Hoping you'll get the right dice roll to land a hold is pretty simple. Creating an ambush, making the right decision on when to attack, when to rent and fight another day, even figuring out optimal bash assignments or hiding places, that's what I consider enjoyable. 1v1 duels are boring.
mud even filled with newmavlad the peacelover and relaxed eq distributor instead of furious pkiller!!!
all this arena talk, brafus, lame pk whinings are worthless, go war other peacemongers and have fun while the playerbase is large!
keep it in the circus, and go back to bed with your bearded lady.
i mean seriously, who gives a shit what you were doing when you died, or if you're playing, or if you were almost killed. honestly.

Maybe you should clean the lovejuice off your keyboard so you make fewer mistakes when you're typing, twink.
