    illegal riskless looting!
  10. mavlad · 29 Aug 2008
looting in da peace room is riskless indeed
  11. al · 29 Aug 2008
what? it is blatantly illegal. you can not loot gear if you are collaborating together simply to avoid flags.
  12. Brafu · 30 Aug 2008
What he did, that's illegal, is rent after the pk started, then go back down and wait for the death so he could loot 100% safe of flags.

I'm sure there's a "grey" area here, but the fact is he rented to ensure (I assume) he could rent and wasn't flagged, and then he didn't follow up again so he could avoid said flags and loot the eq safely.

    EDIT::

Killed by a stand bash trig.... how sad.

    "WaaggGGGhhHGGGhhh"
  14. Wipeout · 30 Aug 2008
Actually, Cleirvoyance wouldn't have gotten flags anyways.
  15. al · 30 Aug 2008
wipeout, you hit the nail on the head. by effectively looting stax's corpse and not engaging any players with aggressive actions, your partner in crime risked nothing except a sore spamming finger from the engagement. in the sphere of pk, riskless looting is illegal. cleirvoyance was able to loot the gear, while maintaining immunity from stax's attacks while in a peace room.

this instance highlights that there are flaws exist within the current flag system. i propose that if anyone loots a player corpse, they are justly flagged like the attacker; they should be held accountable to the same degree as the pker himself.
  16. Heo · 30 Aug 2008
Yes, I'm sure that wouldn't lead to absurd types of abuse....

  20. Over · 30 Aug 2008
    WAAggghhhHHH!
  21. Monty · 30 Aug 2008
Although his renting and looting was infact illegal he wouldnt have had flags. So this is no differnt then using flags after pk with a cleric who isnt flagged and is there to heal the person with flags. Good points tho.
  22. justinB · 30 Aug 2008
What does healing someone during PK have to do with the loss of gear without a fair chance of recovering it? Healing a person using flags and healing a person fighting in the ghetto public alleys is the same thing.. pk assist!!
  23. Heo · 30 Aug 2008
You must be joking about illegal looting. Glimpse had no flags, but that didn't stop him from spamming 'get all corpse'.

At some point it is a balance between practicality and intent. Clearly Cleirvoyance should not have waited for Stax's group to loot, and I doubt he had any ill-intent to avoid flags. If he used a level 1 to do it, or if Wipeout then transferred all equipment to Cleiroyance to as not to be killed, then maybe it would be illegal.

Typically "Riskless Looting" refers to using a trash char or lvl 1 to run in, loot, and then transfer equipment to a multi. Cleir used his main char, so it's fine.
  24. daniel_1 · 30 Aug 2008
i hope anyone who says that waaagh shit gets hit by a bus

shut the fuck up already! gawd
  25. purly · 30 Aug 2008
If Player A loots Player B's corpse and afterward Player A can't be touched in a peace room by Player B, they looted risklessly. It is really just a matter of whether Player A is able to rent immediately after looting Player B's flagged gear.
Using or not using your main character has nothing to do with it.
  26. Wipeout · 30 Aug 2008
so if wipeout would have looted the gear before cleirvoyance did, it would have been illegal, riskless looting? ....because wipeout rented almost immediately afterwards.
  27. patrick · 30 Aug 2008
If you are involved enough to loot a corpse then you are involved enough to protect the loot. If you fuck up and loot something you cannot defend and die accordingly, a lesson is there to learn. If you cannot learn the easy lesson you deserve everything after.

    This is a good rule.

  30. ddog · 30 Aug 2008
and i notice im getting a boner reading these awesome comments! YEAH
  31. Jarrad · 30 Aug 2008
Regarding a few points. Cleirvoyance is not his main char, that would be either over or bashy. I'd say the looting isn't illegal, but although its not in the log I believe he used a low level trash char to draw the flag for wipeout. That is definitely illegal... I've also had him using Cleirvoyance naked to draw flags on me for wipeout... Also illegal... Basically cleirvoyance/wipeout epitomise trash chars...
  32. patrick · 30 Aug 2008
    While you epitomize trash person!
  33. al · 30 Aug 2008
you be the judge, how would you want these rules to be interpreted? i don't see why anyone should be opposed to some degree of pk flag assigned to a player who aggressively loots a corpse... are they not in a sense stealing gear?

    -----------

One way the system works to discourage player-versus-player aggression is
by temporarily keeping both the victim and the perpetrator in a pkill
scenario from being able to rent. This is to prevent people from attacking
other players and renting immediately, negating any chance of revenge by
the victim. As a general guideline, any potentially negative spell, skill,
or combat action involving two or more players is defined as a
player-versus-player (or 'pkill') event. Some exceptions exist,
specifically helpful spells or skills. Use common sense.

    2) Equipment passing:
This is defined as the passing of equipment gained from a pkill to a player
that was not involved and therefore able to rent freely, protected from retribution. Players that pass equipment and the player that accepts this
'tainted' equipment are both breaking this rule.

    3) Riskless corpse looting:
The use of a "trash" character or, especially, a low level character to
loot the corpse of a victim is illegal. The staff of ArcticMud reserves the
right to determine if the character in question is "riskless".
  34. mavlad · 30 Aug 2008
Holy shit! Wipeout broke the rule renting immediatly after pk. Good thing he didn't loot eq which would had gotten him involved into riskless looting b/c none had a flag on him
  35. pablo · 31 Aug 2008
Flags are groupwise and it was them having flags on stax not otherwise. Stax chose to get flagged. Deal with it!
  36. Jarrad · 31 Aug 2008
    Trash Characters

Trash or "Throwaway" characters can be defined in several different ways.
Unfortunately not all ways can be written into a text file. Common sense
    should prevail.

Generally any character that is below level 25 can be considered trash.
Why? For the simple fact that many players can have a character up to that
level in less than 24 hours of playtime. Since that is a small amount of
time you are not risking much when you participate in killing or looting a
higher level character. Many of our players who participate in clan warfare
have 20+ days of playtime to get where they are.

Characters of much less experience level should not assist or hinder
characters of much greater experience level in any pkill activity.

Characters that are down 2 levels or more and make no reasonable attempt to
gain the level back can also be considered trash.

Any character that is used primarily to "pkill" others and then transfer
the ill-gotten gear onto a different 'more playable' character or equiptheir friends is the classic definition.

Remember your definition of a "trash character might not be shared with
others, but once a member of the staff is asked to intervene, their
definition will hold the most weight. This ruling will be enforced with
severe punishment when anyone falling under the trash category breaks any
    portion of the games policy.

I'd say they meet a few of these conditions, and luring with a low level char to draw flags is definitely breaking the rules... And looking at where all the gear that wipeout gets from his kills ends up might suggest another break in the rules...
    I'd sa
  37. Brafu · 31 Aug 2008
Nothing will be done, since no imm really gives a damn these days, IMO. Everyone knows every char Over has is trash, or will be trash in the end once he starts getting attacked from all sides. In the war he treated his chars like crap, other than Over itself since even he wants to try and keep at-least one char above total trash level.

Personally, I'm really tired of seeing people get away with using trash chars to attack people who actually give a damn about their char.

I hope to see more comments like that thanks again brafu!!
  40. pablo · 31 Aug 2008
So Jarrad, what do you think, Paradox looting galan robes with trash gear and /recall/renting/transferring to Ispi/never again zoning with Paradox char/ would be considered a trashy behaviour?
  41. daniel_1 · 31 Aug 2008
using a level 1 to gain flags for a group mate is blatant abuse of mechanics

delete all parties involved and change the system
  42. Kalis · 31 Aug 2008
If Wipeout was involved in PK, looted, and rented after flags had worn off, you can't really argue the legality of that. If you think flags wore off too fast, then maybe the law is wrong, but either way he would have been working within it.

Just curious though, can somebody explain to me the reasoning of flagging the aggressor AND the victim, and how those timers are set? I definitely remember a few cases of some trash failing holds on me on my way back to the inn and renting off before I was able to.

there are a few type of gamers. there is the thoughtful gamer, one who seeks to better the environment for everyone who plays the game through revisions to the existing game platform. then there is the mud addict, the player that can't get enough of the game, and will go to whatever extreme to keep the game the same because they are afraid of change. the addicts need to take a step back and critically examine the game and identify what aspects are imbalanced and provide discussion aimed at resolving the problem, regardless of clan affiliation. it's the players that define the game, and as of late, all the comments become one-sided shouting matches. grow up and move on or forever stay in thoughtless infancy!
  53. patrick · 3 Sep 2008
Al I dunno about all that hippyspeak

I am not even an active player. Only because I can only kill preprogrammed mobs so many times. I have always and always will play this game to fight. I died a lot and I killed a lot and honestly I never really cared. Action is action and who cares if you loose your stupid eq. Not like someone is actually jamming a sword into your neck. So all that addict talk is whatever it is, I seem to fall into the "addict" category even tho I dont even play.

i do make exceptions though, specifically for the strangest Russian character i've encountered, you all know him as mavlad! no matter what i'll say, he'll come back with "... come fight, meet battledeath glory on pirate blade and might of magic..." or the like.

    i do appreciate good comedy!

if brafu cares so much about getting killed by trash, then maybe his carefully cultivated characters should be a bit better so they don't die... I mean if your char that you've pinned all your hopes and dreams on is worse than Over's trash then maybe you should rethink this game... or work harder

in general though, everybody who (usually is on the losing side) talks about adapting arctic to make it more "friendly" for "new" and "casual" players, but how many of these changes have really done that? people who want to play this game will play this game, and those who lose interest the second they die won't be retained anyway so why don't we stop with the newbie crap
*edit* although it seems these days oldtimers quit at the thought of pk

p.s. funny to see imms "on MAEL side"... wilds feeling jealous yet??

FYI, the last time I can remember being killed (on a non lowbie) by anyone I would consider "trash", was probably..... 5 years ago.
