    do you still play pablo?
  12. Daniil · 13 Feb 2008
alisher: Pablo always use one title for his mage, so it's not hard to understand his char name :P
  13. al · 13 Feb 2008
solo pk with a sky scout is hard, why not give it a good rating?
  14. Kalis · 13 Feb 2008
It was a solid kill for Alisher, but Pablo has a point, the charmies were doing all the real work, so a level one barb could probably have made the same kill.
  15. patrick · 13 Feb 2008
who cares of details. Dead is dead. Live is live. Lucia dead. Congrat enemy
  16. Kalis · 13 Feb 2008
Like I said, Alisher gets a cookie for a nicely executed kill, I was just agreeing with Pablo that this doesn't stand out for being a "sky scout solo kill" because it was all about Alisher's great use of charmies, not his use of the skies' unique abilities.

the only real pk that is a true challenge is 10 v 10. so next time we are both on, little to no preps, just fight and see who wins. sounds easy right..
  22. patrick · 15 Feb 2008
What are you talking about. 10v10 is a crapshoot
  23. al · 15 Feb 2008
you are insane! the reason we all play is to get good gear and fun spells... all with the hope of using them in fights against other players! what else drives people to grind away vs mobs we've killed thousands of times... oh yeah i forgot... ranking is fun...
  24. purly · 15 Feb 2008
    10 v 10 a crapshoot?
It's all about target placement, heal usage, spell success, skill, and ability to remain calm in pk... sure, there are a lot of factors, and there is no way to predict the outcome unless one side has an ace up their sleeve, but it is definitely NOT a crapshoot.
It's a gambit. (yes, that is a word)
  25. patrick · 15 Feb 2008
No it is a crapshoot. Look most of us here have been playing at least 4 years, we are all veterans of countless battles. Both sides have a pretty even split of players who are better at pk than others. We all go into battle with a plan, with bash assignments and assorted strategy. But you know what, at the end of the day its a crap shoot. If a stun goes off and luckily stuns 4 of the enemy group including a healer or other vital char, that is pure luck. And it can go either way. And there is a myriad other things that can happen. Both sides roll the dice and somebody's number comes up, and others dont. There is way to much spam and area to do a whole hell of a lot but what your assignment was going in and hope you dont see the menu screen
  26. patrick · 15 Feb 2008
And to pre-empt your arguement: Yes of course you can change on the fly in the middle of battle and do little things to counteract, Im just speaking in broader generalized terms
  27. al · 15 Feb 2008
in response to big clan battles being a crapshoot:

if they are a crapshoot and you can't be convinced otherwise, i admit this point; CRAPSHOOTS ARE KING!

Bring on the crapshoots, please, because they are hands down the most fun you can have in this game. Seriously, I think people have forgotten what 10 v 10 is... back in the day they'd happen regularly. 2 teams would log on, meet up, and battle to the death! Are the glorious days gone forever? If they are maybe it's time to quit this game!
  28. patrick · 15 Feb 2008
I personally feel the main problem is enemy is 1 major loss away from massquit.
  29. patrick · 15 Feb 2008
Oh and al, I totally agree. Crapshoot or not 10 v 10 is the only reason I play this game.
  30. purly · 16 Feb 2008
Why call 10 v 10 a crapshoot if you like it? When I go to a casino I avoid craps unless it is on someone else's dime.
10 v 10 is the biggest test that you can give to a player. If they can perform well, then they have what it takes. If they take their "assignment" too seriously and are unable to change in the fray...they don't.
There certainly are elements of luck, but I vehemently believe that the one time that a clan has bragging rights in pk is when they win an evenly-pitted 10 v 10. What a win like that shows is that a group of players are forward-thinking enough to create a plan and flexible enough to change it mid-battle.

    WOOF

"purly" Why call 10 v 10 a crapshoot if you like it? When I go to a casino I avoid craps unless it is on someone else's dime.

Um outlaws would agree I think!

FYI: I love craps and most other casino games. The only reason not to gamble is if you are afraid to loose, or cannot afford to loose. I have never played a casino game afraid to loose or lost money I could not afford to loose. The mud is no different. It does not mean that I gamble stupidly but high risk = high reward.

    Take your own advice, pal.

As far as craps being comparable to pk, I think that is a poor analogy.

Whether a crap shoot is a good analogy or not your analysis is dead on. The lack of clan warfare is a combination of the fear of losing and the implications of losing your gear and spells. At different times it can sway stronger in one direction or the other. We need to work to reduce the fear of losing which I think mainly arises from trash talk. Log descriptions, log comments, board posts and shouts that are disrespectful or are intended to put down your opponent in front of a large audience just result in less fights which = less fun. That seems to be the main difference in players' will to fight in the "old days" and now.

Agree 100% with Reafe. And, for what it's worth, Arctic isn't the only place where this is happening. I keep in touch with folks from a number of other muds where PK is the best activity around, and they're reporting the same issues we see here:

    - People afraid to lose lines of text
    - People afraid of being shittalked mercilessly

Personally I think it's more the former than the latter, but the latter certainly plays a role. You even see it on carebear muds where PK never results in xp/eq loss.
