It's weird how that happens, when you recruit on how well someone plays, as opposed to how well a person is.

It's weird how so many ex-bsp fight bsp.

It's weird how you're a big fag, kiss my grits.

Seq is suggesting that good, kind-hearted souls migrate towards the most viscious and powerful clans, whereas the scum migrate towards clans like myth/kos.

    Oh wait... forgot about mike-karat.

    I guess you're right.

hey fagrh, this is unrestricted pk mud, which is pretty rare in the mud world. There are thousands of San Francisco style muds out there for you. Hey maybe even one where you can create your own Ryan Seacrest character

nothing personal to any friends left in bsp. what am i supposed to do when mavlad tells me i'm going to die and be hunted? of course i'll fight. too bad your runglish captain can't keep anything friendly.

Maybe you aren't on such great terms with bsp because you quit in a hissy fit and then go off and random with the character BSP built you?

    Patrick:

    a) Ask mouthros about the grayness of 'restricted' vs 'unrestricted'.
I can name a restriction on pk - trash characters. Saferooms...

    b) What did your post have to do with anything? (as usual) You seem to have an obsession with homosexuality. Perhaps its something within yourself that you are scared of? A dark demon lurking within?

What I was remarking on, originally, is the natural human tendencies in a competative environment.

Some people would step over their own mothers to make progress... some don't.

I find that comment to be pretty funny since it's coming from the same guy who had no problem having me group with him after garbage broke up (the first time), yet tried to pk me the day I came back from a 3 month break because I did a zone with the re-forming garbage clan. Everyone knows you look for an excuse to pk, so why do you still try to act like you don't?

rurh: Why ask me? You shot down all my arguements with you about the pk status with your mighty "you're stupid, read my comments"-style retorts. No, I'll let you deal with this, because I know you can't. No go wait for the short bus to take you home.

Ninda, this may come as an utter shock to you, but alot of people use chars 'built' by a clan to fight against them at some point. Hell I remember fighting against certain members of Darkmoon only a day or 2 after I had zoned heavily with them, then zoning with some of them after the war died down some (finding out who Riaa was played by was suprising at first). I used a mage last wipe to pk BSp fodder who earlier in the wipe had helped me load spells/eq for alot fo chars, and was killed a coupel times by people I helped. Shit happens.

Inshort, nobody will care before long, and if Mavlad sided with a newer horde member over a long-time member, he's only going to screw himself.

Malth: "yet tried to pk me the day I came back from a 3 month break because I did a zone with the re-forming garbage clan."

I'm sorry but that totally nullifies your argument since garbage already declared war to BSP at that point

If you mean i hid Riaa in garbage to build it up for pk all i have to say is i was going to join garbage at some point (darkmoon was disbanded at that point and all my mates was in KoT), took a 1 month exam break, come back and garbage had disbanded, so joined renshai 2 months later.

    Malthros:

Reading and comprehending a refutation the first time is a good way to not have it referred back to.

    It's always been ironic.

If people keep bringing up points that I've refuted, I can:
    a) Refer them to reread the original
    - In which case that's all they hear, and the refuse to believe there ever was an original.
    b) I repeat the original
    - In which case people whine about me repeating myself, and that's all I do

Yet it's the stupidheads that keep bringing up shot-down concepts back up.
  21. bribera · 16 Sep 2005
    Rurh:
"Unrestricted PK" is not as grey as you'd suggest. Whenever that term is used, it always refers to the actions that are permissible within the mud, but not always possible.

If you want people to acknowledge that there is clarity in your refutations, request that of them without using prepositions at the ends your sentences. That's simply bad form.

Regarding what you said originally, about people bringing down their own mothers:
I'd guess that you disagree with the ideas of psychological egoism, but I think they tend to apply to games and other non-realistic situations. In these situations, I'd contend that people always act in their own perceived self interest. There are those that are able to separate the game from real life, and they therefore have no problem making such radical switches in their affiliations. But, since this is just a game it's a bit rash to treat those behaviors as evidence of real-life moral deficiency.

EDIT(s): i are spelling good today
  22. tikk · 16 Sep 2005
holy crap someone just got owned
  23. deoph · 16 Sep 2005
I agree rurh can be rash but it is apparant that some of these people are morally defunct. Stealing from your group who also put hours into doing something, greeding things you don't need and destroying other peoples work to entertain yourself are just some examples. When I pk, I use real characters, those that don't use characters they give a shit about are cowards which is not a good "moral". It really doesn't matter that it is a game it should cause some twinge of guilt that days of a persons time is ruined (eq, exp and spells) and you purposefully decay spells when you are a trash randomer. Ruining other peoples fun is not the only way to have fun at arctic and probably wasn't what brought you to arctic in the first place. I feel some guilt when I make a kill on an unskilled person that didn't expressly deserve it (not that it happens much). The game is not real life, but if your shitting on someone else to amuse yourself, I'm willing to bet you would do it in real life too. Most of you do, some of you might not even realize it your so morally bankrupt:
when you stole pot-head-fred's stash and got blasted on the roof of the seven-eleven and then kicked the shit Mohash Al-Abala's air conditioning unit which cost him $700 dollars to replace.
Games like Ding-dong-ditch... or flameing brown bags of dogshit.
Spray-painting or other forms of vandalism.
Throwing your aunties toilet seat into a tree.
Pissing all over the bathroom like the drunk peice of shit you are.
    Prank-calling.
How many people have I nabbed with those examples? And you probably think thats all innocent shit too. They are just games right? Your just having fun right?
  24. Rurh · 16 Sep 2005
""Unrestricted PK" is not as grey as you'd suggest. Whenever that term is used, it always refers to the actions that are permissible within the mud, but not always possible."

Woo! We have a specialist on our midst. Alrighty then, give me a solid definition that I can test from mud to mud, and see if it fits 100%.
Something a little less vague than what you just gave.

"If you want people to acknowledge that there is clarity in your refutations"

I don't want them to ackknowlege anything. If they aren't sure what I'm saying... ask.

" request that of them without using prepositions at the ends your sentences. That's simply bad form."

"EDIT(s): i are spelling good today" - I'll leave it at that.

"Regarding what you said originally, about people bringing down their own mothers:"

    I didn't mean literally.

Assumptions hold true when the majority is correct.
I assume it's bad to step in front of a mac truck. Occasionally one may miss me, but it's still a good assumption.

Whether you like it or not, killing someone takes something away from them. (I am not disputing right or wrong, deserved or not), just that it happens.

If someone truly can simply 'turn off' their compassion for fellow sentient creatures' work, because it's an 'unrealistic' situation, then there is something wrong with that person.

Keep trying to sever the connection between game and life. It's funny to watch.

Arctic is simply a medium on interaction from real person to real person. This medium could be telephone or a restaurant, chat room.

Those people who can 'switch' depending on the 'level of realism' we'd usually consider actors.

"The game is not real life, but if your shitting on someone else to amuse yourself, I'm willing to bet you would do it in real life too."

    Basically what I've been saying.

I've never equated the game to real life. Never.

But to insinuate that there is zero relation between real life and the game, is naive at best.

    Rurh:
    while( ("i are spelling good").equals( A Joke, you Moron ) ) Rurh.bitchSlap( );

    Rurh/deoph:

When I wrote about actions within a game, my argument took place within the category of “non-realistic situations”. These situations are ones one would not imagine having direct consequences in the real world. While I agree that the examples deoph provided are all morally questionable, I don’t think any of them fit in the “non-realistic situation” category. All of those things have direct effects on real people in a real world. The people who are affected by those “games” aren’t given a choice to participate or to not participate.

This leaves us with the case of Arctic and games like it. Yes, PKing someone has a direct effect on a real world person. And you’re perfectly right: Arctic is a medium of interaction between two people. Like other mediums, Arctic is governed by a set of rules. Some things correlate directly to society; others are totally unique to the game. Obviously, there are rules in face-to-face interaction about killing people. In the game, these rules are very different. All parties accept the rules of Arctic by playing. No one forces them to play. By accepting the rules both parties are affirming (despite the fact that they’re not always happy with) whatever happens.

Killing someone takes nothing from them about which they haven’t already said, “I’m playing a game with playerkilling, so I acknowledge that it’s just fine for someone to destroy my work and take my stuff. That’s part of the game that I want to play”. If they are unwilling to make that agreement, then they need to play a game that doesn’t permit player killing. Frankly, I think real problems only occur if it a person binds mudding to reality too much.

Each player is the gatekeeper between the game and reality. Real morality takes place in the real world. If I get randomed and I choose to let that effect how I act in the real world (say, I yell at my wife later, or I throw my aunties toilet seat into a tree), I (and not the person who randomed me) have failed morally. We all invest a lot of time in this game, but we must engage the responsibility of keeping it separate from our real lives. We can’t simply relegate that job to randomers, and blame their moral deficiency when we can’t maintain the division.

    Monty:
Thanks, I like Kudos. Unfortunately, I haven't been mudding for a month: work, getting married, and the lack of an internet connection proved to be a rather large impasse. All I can do is sit at work and argue with people who like to argue (I think I might be one of them!).

Wezlar: Ha ha. “Pwnt”, as they say.

If so, do you happen to play Mangus Thermopolye? You two bitch the exact same way, get put in your place the same way, and simpyl keep going.

Bribera's comments are pretty amusing, altho I wonder what people would do if he turned out to be Rurh fucking with us. I know he can't be Rurh, because his posts make sense, but man, that'd be a buzzkill.

And to you Deoph, I enjoy nuking the living hell out of people on games who piss me off. I enjoyed podding 8 people last night on EVE while they were mining or talking shit about pirates, and the day before that? Well I was busy helping my former boy scout troop collect donations for hurricane victims. As long as people liek you make those retarded in-game/real life comparisions, people like me are going to be living proff that you're a moron. I help people constantly in real life, and in most games, I'm an evil bastard. It's called role-playing, and while some like to grief, they're no more the norm than people like myself, who just enjoy a game.

  39. Malth · 17 Sep 2005
Anyone who takes something so personal in a video game shouldn't be allowed to play them.

Pablo: When I came back, I had no idea garbage was warring anyone. I was not in any IRCs, and that same day I had grouped with myth, kos, and other random groups. I only rejoined garbage because Mavlad attacked me, I tried talking to him, but being stubborn as he showed himself to be with artie, I had no choice but to go back to garbage.

I don't consider you or others of having stabbed garbage, because that's all on Loretta, who I defended until this wipe, wwhere he got shady as hell on me, and then turned into an asshole for whatever reason (he never said, but if it's because I 'betrayed' him by leaving garbage, he's welcome to go fuck himself).

At anyrate, Rurh, do you have paypal? if so I'll send you some money so you can buy a damn clue, and Deoph, you should know that killing an unskilled person is going to teach them more in the ways of pk than doing nothing to them. Instead of feeling bad that they lost something that'll decay or get wiped, be happy that you've given them some experience that they need to survive on this MUD*.

Just a clarification point Bribera, are you debating Rurh or agreeing with him? "Regarding what you said originally, about people bringing down their own mothers: I'd guess that you disagree with the ideas of psychological egoism, but I think they tend to apply to games and other non-realistic situations." Doesn't Psychological Egoism refer to the motivation to do things out of self-interest? Isn't this what Rurh is saying? Sure he added "some don't" but that is no worse then what you later go on to say, "In these situations, I'd contend that people always act in their own perceived self interest. _There are those_ that are able to separate the game from real life, and they therefore have no problem making such radical switches in their affiliations." This statement could also be read as, "_There are those_ who don't separate the game from real life, and they therefore have a problem making such radical switches in their affiliations." Thus negating your statement that "people always act in their own self-interest."

If "some people" can disassociate themselves from the game then "some people" can associate and thus their "reality" becomes the game. (I look to people such as Mavlad for help on this) You bring up the question of, what is the real world? Who knows? God? Is there a God? Is what I see, touch, feel my reality? Are you just a figment of my reality? Did I create you so that I could type these questions to myself? Is your dick really up your ass because I thought it was when you responded to Rurh? I don't know. Do you know? Are you my Mother?

But getting away from Bribera for a second, I think the question most of you people need to ask yourselves is: "Why do I feel the need to even respond to Rurh comments?" Do you find enjoyment in "attempting" to slander someone who obviously cares and hides it by pissing people off? Or are you seriously affected by what he says?

p.s. And I'm not Rurh, who I think has his own issues, most of which probably deal with having a small dick and a father that thought he was gay, which will probably turn out to be true when he meets up with Seq someday.

edit: forgot a few words words words
